How long have you been a Friend?
    Two years.

What’s your earliest memory of a library?

Memories of libraries in my life began when I was a child growing up in Cape Elizabeth in the 60’s. I would go with my grade school class to the Thomas Memorial Library once a week.

What was the first book that made a lasting impression on you?
Fast forward to my junior high days. The book was “Kon Tiki” by Thor Heyerdahl.

Other than the books, what is the best part of the NGPL?
To be in the community of people who I know and enjoy having in my life. We go to the library with our grandchildren for story time with Emily. We go to Friends meetings to take the pulse of our library and to see our adult library friends. We go to the book sales to search for the hidden gems that we feel we must have. We go to special presentations to be educated on topics we are interested in. We go to the library for cocoa and cookies after the lighting of Tiny Timber. We go to the library to help with landscaping of the outdoor spaces around the library and of course we go to the library to gets books.

Why did you become a Friend?
We participate in all these events because they are fun, educational and keep us reminded of the importance of a vital, healthy local library. A local library is a unique special place that weaves the fabric of a community into a quilt that is as varied as the people who are welcomed there. I can’t imagine our town without our library and will keep it in my life and support its mission as long as I am able.
